很多学生会写成“So time is always ticking in our inner ear.”当然，不是说句子这样写就错了。对比一下，可以看出区别很明显，这也是我们应该注意并加以改进的地方。 首先，“so”和“therefore”。“so”更口语化，而“therefore”就正式的多。四六级英语考试中，有些很明显要语言口语化的写作题，如演讲类，网上所见的范文也多是写成长句连篇的书面语演讲。这也从侧面认证了“so”换成“therefore”的必要性。 其次，要注意的就是“therefore”出现的位置。它不像“so”，不像中国学生习惯的那样出现在句子开头，而是在句子中间，在主谓之间。作者既要表达出前后的逻辑关联，又不把人的注意力吸引到关联词上，而集中在观点上，就把“therefore”置于句中这最不强调的位置上了。

用“so”还是用“therefore”可以说体现着不同的英语档次(当然仅从这两个词来判断就太冒险了)。能否放在句子中间，前后用逗号与主句分开，体现着英语的地道性。 “however”的情况也相似，我们习惯于把它放在句首。

再看一个句子：“This is due partly to the fact that the telephone service is superb here, whereas the postal services is less efficient”。我们写作时会把“partly”放在词组“due to”中间呢，还是会写“partly because”呢?后者可能更接近我们的思维习惯。
