A computer, a projector, the blackboard. Teaching Procedures: Task 1 Lead in.

Purpose: To arouse students’ interest. (Show students some pictures) What happened in the pictures?

If you are a volunteer in Wenchuan, when you see the people in these situations, what will you do? So giving first aid is very important in our daily life. It is very essential for us to learn some first aid knowledge.

Task 2 Discussion and pre-reading. Purpose: To prepare for the passage

Look at the following pictures, discuss with your partner and tell us how to give first aid in the following situations.

What happened in each picture?

How to give first aid to the people before they were sent to hospital? How to give first Aid to someone when she gets burned? Task 3 Skimming.

Purpose: Ask students to reading the title and subtitle of the passage to know the main idea and the structure of the passage.

1）What’s the topic of the text and how is the information organized?


It’s about first aid and the information is organized according to cause, types, characteristic and treatment for burns.

Read this part carefully, try to use one or two words to fill in the blanks. 1. Take off clothing and jewelry near the burns. 2. Cool the burns with cool water. 3. Place cool, clean wet cloths on the burns. 4. Dry the burned area gently.

5. Cover the burned area with a dry clean bandage. 6. Keep the burned area higher than the heart, if possible. 7. Get the victim to the doctor or hospital, if possible. Task 5 Pair work.
